Version 2 of Melodiefabriek.nl is almost ready. But still some things need work:
Consistency in text needs to be checkedSome gui things (CSS) not perfect yetSupport for old browsers?Updating music-pageSome more things I haven’t yet thought about…
The tools
For the second version of my Melodiefabriek.nl website I decided to move to Linux using PHP, MySQL and WordPress for creating a more transparent and easy to maintain website. All these tools are Open Source and easy to install and use. The GUI can be easily changed, because the graphics are separated from the content. So it’s simple to change the look and feel without the need to re-save all your previous posts.
Michael Heilemann
The creator of the default WordPress theme, Michael Heilemann of Binary Bonsai, has some good tips and general ideas about weblogging. I think his design is very well done, consistent and easy to read.
The current GUI of Melodiefabriek.nl (version 2) includes many styles from Michael’s Kubrick Theme, the standard theme of WordPress.
Browser differences, clean up CSS
We all know that Microsoft’s IE doesn’t support CSS according to the standards of W3c. That means that there are small differences between the look of Melodiefabriek v2 using Firefox 1 versus IE 6. I also noticed that there’s a small issue with the footer under Opera 7., but I am planning to find out what’s causing it.
In general I think that the stylesheet can become even more compact than it is now. At same time it should support all css-compliant browsers. But in general I am already very happy with the current look-and-feel and feature-set.
Nothing’s perfect
Yes, nothing really is perfect. Sure, but thanks to the new flexible system Melodiefabriek.nl is running on, it will be easier to optimize it. So if you have any suggestions, please add your comment or send us a message.
Thanks for checking out the site! I hope you enjoy it!
Well, it already looks impressive… nice to come across your site, always nice to see what keeps fellow Dutchmen busy… ;)
Keep it flowin’!
Thanks Curly!
I see you’re updating your site as well. Michael Heilemann’s K2 might be very interesting. But I need to learn WordPress a bit more I guess. I like WordPress a lot already. Very flexible and it should be easy to complete change your site from time to time. This was exactly the reason for me to switch from ASP/SQL2000/Windows2003 to PHP/MySQL/Linux with WordPress.
