Word of mouth is the main promo tool we use at DiSfish. Because it is a pure method; communication between artists to artists , artists to fans and fans to fans. The one thing which is rather important to us at DiSfish is the artists to artists relationship. If artists love other artists at DiSfish this realy means something to us, Cezary and me. It means that they like the quality of music but the main thing is that it makes them feel they are not in competition with those other artists. DiSfish is a label which works as a collective. DiSfish artists believe that a collective is bigger than the sum of all parts.
Today I recieved an email from an artist who would like to join DiSfish. She wrote: “I hear one of your artist s4ge : really good. I love”
Yes, we love s4ge!
And of course there’s more s4ge music at DiSfish you should check out!
I think is is an important idea–the idea of the “collective appreciation” among artists. It is this form of collectivism, rather than the old-fashioned uses of the term, that interests me.
I bought a ‘zine from the UK lately which dealt with unsigned rock bands.
It’s a good zine, and came with a reasonably good collection of post-punk and metal (which was like being 14 years old all over again).
But in every interview, the bands spent all their time criticizing other bands in their areas.
I can understand the problem of finding innovative music. But to me, the ideal is the collective appreciation of artists for one another.
I like the way you put it here.
thanks. yes, art and competition don’t go well together. it’s not a game.
