Zo’n vreemde dag vandaag. Vanaf de 5e etage van mijn flat in Mariahoeve keek ik naar beneden en zag een man op straat liggen met een doek over hem heen geslagen. Een schoen lag wat verderop. Een grote plas bloed. En een hand stak onder de doek vandaan, doodsbleek. De buurjongen had hem om 9 uur aangetroffen, als eerste. Moord of zelfdoding? De buren zijn nu niet thuis. Misschien weet ik morgen meer. De rest van de dag bracht ik in Amsterdam door. Het was er prachtig. Een Engelse vrouw zat op een bankje te tekenen. Zo raar, het leven gaat altijd door. Altijd.

The Tape-beatles, voor ruimdenkende oren.

The Tape-beatles are a collaboration of varying membership that make music and audio art recordings,”expanded cinema” performances, videos, printed publications, and works in other media. They work under the aegis of Public Works Productions.

The Tape-beatles began creating works for audio tape in 1987. Their goal at first was to create a form of pop music that made no use of musical instruments, instead relying on tape recording and analog studio techniques as their sole source of sounds. In addition, the Tape-beatles aspired to an egalitarian attitude of artmaking, avoiding the use of “professional” equipment and milieux, opting instead to make work almost entirely using home stereo equipment.

Further, The Tape-beatles espoused the use of plagiarism as a positive artistic technique. Their work drew more or less exclusively from the previously “finished” works of others, assembling fragments of these works into entirely new constructions that did not exist before the Tape-beatles made them. It was the Tape-beatles’ belief that such works constituted valid works of authorship in themselves, and they never asked for legal permission to use other people’s work in their compositions (occasionally, permission was asked simply as a courtesy, completely outside a legal context).

Members of the Tape-beatles currently include as of this writing Lloyd Dunn and John Heck. Former or occasional members of the group include Linda Morgan Brown, Paul Neff, and Ralph Johnson.

Internet speelt totaal geen rol in ons leven. Echt handgeschreven brieven zijn veel persoonlijker. Of laten we bellen zodat we onze stemmen kunnen horen. Het liefst ontmoeten we elkaar in het echt.

Ook kopen we natuurlijk nog steeds CD’s en DVD’s ondanks dat je tegenwoordig flink moet zoeken naar die winkels.

Alsof het nog steeds 1995 is!

De politiek die zich helemaal suf lult over het wegennet, de spoorwegen, maar het over de infrastructuur online hebben, ho maar!

Binnenkort is een wettelijk downloadverbod aanstaande. En de meeste politieke partijen gaan voor het verbod stemmen (GRRRR!). Alsof ze dan ineens het Internet wel begrijpen.

Ik geloof in niches, hele kleine niches zelfs. Daarom geloof ik zo in blogs. Blogs die met elkaar communiceren. Een dialoog aangaan. Vele malen krachtiger dan menig sociaal platform.

Sinds de komst van het internet geloof ik in dit decentrale web.

Het semantische web is aanstaande en gaat betekenis geven aan deze decentrale data. Iets dat Tim Berners-Lee al in 1999 beweerde. Binnen nu en een paar jaar is dit heel normaal:

The Semantic Web will bring structure to the meaningful content of Web pages, creating an environment where software agents roaming from page to page can readily carry out sophisticated tasks for users. Such an agent coming to the clinic’s Web page will know not just that the page has keywords such as “treatment, medicine, physical, therapy” (as might be encoded today) but also that Dr. Hartman works at this clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and that the script takes a date range in yyyy-mm-dd format and returns appointment times. And it will “know” all this without needing artificial intelligence on the scale of 2001’s Hal or Star Wars’s C-3PO. Instead these semantics were encoded into the Web page when the clinic’s office manager (who never took Comp Sci 101) massaged it into shape using off-the-shelf software for writing Semantic Web pages along with resources listed on the Physical Therapy Association’s site.
